Caulking
Caulk is used to seal joints between two surfaces. When two surfaces
are properly sealed together, it prevents any cracks from developing,
thereby keeping water, moisture, pests and insects from creeping
in and causing damage. Caulking adds to the life of whatever surface
it's used for. It is used indoors as well as outdoors, on almost
any surface. There are many types of caulk used for projects involving
many different materials, such as particleboard, tile-board, paneling,
drywall, concrete, appliances, tubs, steel and even mirrors, just
to name a few.
One good reason to use caulk is to provide a finished appearance to the job (such as exterior caulking around newly installed windows for instance). The correct type of caulk is essential, however, to keep water, weather elements, mildew, insects and other pests out of the areas caulked. If left uncaulked, these cracks could lead to severe damage over time, causing costly replacements or repairs to correct the area.
As with paint, caulk cannot be effectively used on any surface unless the right kind is used for any given task, nor can caulk effectively be used on any surface that has deteriorated into a powdery, chalky or flaky area. These areas must be thoroughly inspected prior to any work done and properly repaired when needed.
Painting Plus can conduct a free estimate of your home or business and evaluate surfaces to be serviced, while letting you know exactly what your particular needs will be. Our crew knows the proper caulking material to use for a project.. At the time of any work we perform, we will prepare any surface/s properly to ensure the areas are clean, dry and free of any debris or dirt.
Staining
Not everyone wants paint. Sometimes a quality coat of stain on wood can make your surroundings look 100 times more valuable. Staining gives just as much protection to a surface as primer and/or paint, and in some cases can give the surface a more desirable look. For example, on a newly built deck or other interior or exterior wood surface. Stain can also add life to your favorite areas, while requiring little follow-up maintenance. Staining can help make these places last years longer.
Stain, however, is not only used on wood. It is also used on other surfaces such as spas, hot-tubs, benches, masonry, windows, concrete and concrete buildings, and on certain types carpentry and siding. In addition, it can be used on floors, decks and railings. Just about anything with a paintable surface.
Staining finishes, preserves, protectively coats, waterproofs, and restores surfaces against fungus, molds, mildews, dry-rot, rust, water and steam damage. The use of a staining product can produce a handsome effect anywhere an environmentally safe and long-lasting, durable coating is desired.
Sealant
One of the major causes of damage to a particular surface is improper protection against water and the damage it can cause. On certain surfaces, failure to keep an area properly sealed, and using the correct waterproofing materials is key to protecting your property. Sealants provide and give a protective coating on wood, concrete, masonry, and metals. They repel rust on steals, and metals. Sealants also help in preventing damage caused by the sun's ultraviolet rays, which often leads to fading of the surface. They aid in preventing water-damage to wood by blocking out damage-causing elements. Moisture damage may come from basements, kitchens and bathroom areas on the interior of a structure. Exterior damage comes from a variety of different elements, such as seasonal weather. Dry-rot and the sun's UV rays are only a few damaging elements.
Sealants are applied before any new coat of paint can be used, or over existing coats of paint or stains and sealants, only after first removing and sanding away of all previously applied products that are old, cracking and peeling. This is the only way to end with a professional, valued result. Effective damage-blocking can only be achieved through using the proper product for the current project in mind.
Your home or business' future and preservation depend on proper maintenance. Anything you can use to prevent molding, mildew or pest problems will maintain your structure's value. It's more than just waterproofing or a coat of paint. It is imperative to use the right kind of caulk, stain or sealant for the job.
